Subject Combinations
There are four (4) subject groups.
- Students must choose three (3) subjects from these groups.
- Ensure that each subject comes from a different group, that is; each subject is chosen from a
different column.
- Ensure that each subject comes from a different group, that is; each subject is chosen from a
- Two subjects chosen from the same column will result in a clash.
- PLEASE NOTE that subjects with I and II indicate that there are two (2) subject classes and not that there is a lower and an upper group.

Qualification in CSEC Principles of Accounts at Grade 1 or 2 or 3 is a pre-requisite for the study of CXC-CAPE Accounting.

Teaching, Land Management (Valuation), Accounting, Banking, Management, Secretarial, Insurance and
Investment
BIOLOGY
Qualification in CSEC Biology at Grade 1 or 2 and CSEC Chemistry at Grade 1 or 2 or 3 are pre- requisites for the study of CXC-CAPE Biology.
Teaching, Medicine, Research / Laboratory, Nursing, Therapy, Dental / Medical Technology Engineering,
Computer Science, Pharmacy, Food Technology, Geomatics, Coastal Conservation and Petroleum
Geoscience.
BUILDING MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING DRAWING (BMED)
The pre-requisite for the study of BMED at CXC-CAPE level is a Grade 1 or 2 or 3 at CXC-CSEC Technical Drawing.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE BMED these include:
Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Teaching, Architect and Drafters
CHEMISTRY
Qualification in CXC-CSEC Chemistry at Grade 1 or 2 and a pass in Mathematics are pre-requisites for the study of CXC-CAPE Chemistry.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Chemistry these include:
Chemical and Process Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience, Geomatics, Pharmacy, Dental, Medicine and
Teaching.
ECONOMICS
No pre-requisites
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Economics these include:
Land Management (Valuation), Economic Consultant, Market Research Analyst, Financial Analyst,
Teaching
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
No pre-requisites.
Students with a minimum
knowledge of the areas of business would be helpful as well as good written and communication skills
would be an asset.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Entrepreneurship these include:
Commercial bankers, franchise operators, research and development executives and business
consultants
Qualifications in CXC-CSEC Mathematics at Grade 1 or 2 and CXC-CSEC EEET or Physics at Grade 1 or 2 are pre-requisites for the study of CXC-CAPE EEET.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE EEET these include:
Software engineering, turbine engineering, app designing, electronic technician, auto electrician and
aeronautical engineering.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Qualification in any CXC-CSEC science subject is the pre-requisite for the study of CXC- CAPE Environmental Science.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Environmental Science these include:
Environmental consultant, Environmental education officer, Environmental engineer, Environmental
manager, Marine biologist, Nature conservation officer, Recycling officer, Sustainability consultant,
Waste management officer, Water quality scientist, Tourism, Environmental Science, Urban Planning,
Resource Management, Architecture, Oceanography, Meteorology, Landscaping and Disaster
Management.
FOREIGN LANGUAGES-FRENCH/SPANISH
For CXC-CAPE French/Spanish, it is recommended that the student would have done English Literature at CXC-CSEC and also received a Grade 1 or 2 in CXC-CSEC French/Spanish.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE French/Spanish these include:
Teacher, Translator/Interpreter, Foreign Service Officer, Bilingual Executive, Bi-lingual Secretary; Any
job in the Tourism field, Diplomatic Services; Any job with International Agencies
GEOGRAPHY
Qualification in CSEC Geography at Grade 1 or 2 or 3 is a pre-requisite for the study of CXC- CAPE Geography.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Geography:
Tourism, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Airline Industry, Resource Management,
Marine Engineering, Architecture, Oceanography, Meteorology, Landscaping, Disaster
Management and Petroleum Geoscience.
HISTORY
Qualification in CSEC History Grade 1 or 2 is a pre-requisite for the study of History at CXC-CAPE.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE History these include:
Museum Curator, Archivist, Librarian, Journalist, Lawyer, Historian, Teacher and Researcher
LITERATURES IN ENGLISH
Qualification in CXC-CSEC English B Grade 1 or 2 or 3 is a pre-requisite for the study of Literatures in English at CXC-CAPE.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Literatures in English these include:
Journalism, Law, Teaching, Librarianship and Creative Arts
MANAGEMENT OF BUSINESS
Qualification in CSEC Principles of Accounts at Grade 1 or 2 or 3 is a compulsory pre-requisite for CXC-CAPE Management of Business.

The pre-requisite for study in CXC-CAPE Pure Mathematics is a Grade 1 or 2 or 3 at CXC- CSEC Mathematics.

and Land Information), Land Management (Valuation), Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial

SOCIOLOGY
Students who display good writing and analytical skills may apply for CXC-CAPE Sociology. Students with
English and History would be given preference.
A wide variety of jobs are open to someone doing CAPE Sociology these include:
Survey Researcher, Teaching, Social Worker, Human Resource Specialist, Guidance Counsellor and
Lawyer.
TOURISM
There are no pre-requisites for the study of CXC-CAPE Tourism. Students with a knowledge of business would be an asset.
Hotel Manager, Chef, Tour Manager, Customer Service Representative, Hotel Receptionist and Travel Agent.
