Before I began attending the illustrious Polytechnic Institute I really and truly had no clue where my life was headed as I was leaving my previous school in search of subjects that better suited my interests and intellect. My prayers were answered in the form of Sixth Form Government that had all the areas I was interested in and thus my journey began with uncertainty and excitement. I was met with a large variety of people, teachers and staff that I never imagined myself interacting with, much less getting along with; however, I soon began to make friends that would last me a lifetime.
When it comes to academics, you will meet some of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of meeting and will hopefully still stay in contact with as I move on to higher education. To those teachers who pushed me, encouraged me to do different things and motivated me when I was down SHOUT OUT TO YOU!! My overall “Poly experience” has been one filled with life, love, arguments and growth, from participating in events like Sports Day, “Mr & Ms. Poly” and cheering on my classmates as they represented our school in track and field events to the simple moments of hanging out and gossiping under the almond tree in between classes.
My poly experience will be one I will never forget and take with me throughout the rest of my life.

My Form Six experience at Polytechnic is one for the books, where I was able to accomplish many things, such as excelling in academics, to participating in countless extra-curricular activities. Before I began form six, I had taken a year off after my CSEC exams and was unsure about which school was the right fit for me. Polytechnic was actually one of my later choices, but this goes to show how everything happens for a reason. Two years later, I can definitely say that these two years were worth it. I quickly settled in and was able to develop long-lasting friendships, as well as the opportunity to engage with the most passionate teachers, who went above and beyond and ensured you were always up to standard.
In Poly, we were always encouraged to reach for the stars, always reminded that anything is possible, once we put in the work. In addition to academics, my form six experience helped me cultivate time management skills and problem-solving abilities as I participated in many of the after school extra-curricular activities they offered, such as IVCF, UNESCO and the gardening club.
Partaking in competitions outside of school, such as the SSTF or the UWI Secondary School Design and Build Competition also offered a sense of pride as we were given the opportunity to represent Sixth form and prove that we were a force to be reckoned with. I also can’t forget to mention all the house competitions: Cricket, Football, Parang, Mr. and Ms. Poly and Sports Day, each and every competition more heated than the other which fuelled our competitive spirits and allowed us to build strong bonds through teamwork.
Overall, my experience at Sixth Form was transformative, equipping me with the knowledge and confidence to succeed in higher education and beyond and I am profoundly grateful for the support and opportunities provided during this pivotal moment in my academic journey. It truly was unforgettable.
